Today’s type of data manipulation is called “cherry picking data”.

It is related to a trick commonly used by graphic designers to steer the viewer's reasoning. The first graph displays the number of crime cases from 2009 to 2022. The prevention of crime can be achieved through a stronger police presence. In 2022, a rise in new cases was observed compared to the previous year. To emphasize the issue and the need for increased police force, the visualization designer selectively presented only the data that supports the desired narrative.

The message conveyed: Crime is on the rise. But is it really?
